OUR LADY OF THE SOCORRO CATHEDRAL

The cathedral owes its name to the painting of the Virgin del Socorro, the copy of a painting whose original is located in Valencia, Spain.
Since the beginning of the century, this Virgin has been the subject of immense fervour, to the point that believers have offered him a crown of gold and diamonds that leave the bank only on the occasion of the festival, on August 1, and on the second Sunday in November. Built in 1580, the church has undergone some transformations, including the construction of a crypt in 1874, where the heroes of independence are based: General Cedeño and Colonel Ambrosio Plaza, who died during the battle of Carabobo, as well as General Girardot, the head of the New Grenada Legion, future Colombia. The cathedral has several beautiful paintings by Venezuelan masters.
