The airport has been decommissioned and currently only has national airport status, in January 2012 it was still closed for renovation. President Hugo Chávez, in response to the commitments of Falcon State Governor Stella Lugo, approved the grant of 87 million bolivars to reactivate the airport, the completion of work scheduled for July 2012.
