OLD WINDSTEIN CASTLE
A castle full of history that dates back to 1205, built under the impulse of Abbot Pierre de Neubourg and belonged to the Windsteins
This castle dates back to 1205, built at the instigation of Abbot Pierre de Neubourg. At the time, it was essential to protect the road leading to Haguenau. It was later taken over by the Windsteins, before becoming a retreat for the region's brigands. In 1333, the inhabitants complained about this bad neighborliness, and the castle was besieged and destroyed. The Windstein family began rebuilding the castle a decade later, before abandoning it.
