Built in 1681, replacing the Fort San Bernardo, destroyed by the privateers, the castle once defended the city. Its position and its star architecture enabled it to control the passage between North and South, thanks to cannons that covered the area of the place-dit la Fuente to Guacuco. Later, during the war of Independence, the fort served as a prison for the independence of the independence Luisa Cáceres de Arismendi. The wife of Juan Bautista, who was 17 years old, pregnant, placed a child in the world who did not survive the cachot. We close our eyes and we still imagine the 40-soldier dining, the kitchen, the guard and the prison. Declared historic monument in 1965. Its easy access makes it one of the most visited places.
