Etheldreda lived in the th century. She was married to the king of East Anglia and married two princes. Swearing that she would remain virgin, she founded a monastery (in that same church) and died at 49 years of cancer. When his grave was discovered in 695, his body became a sacred relic and placed in the church. Today, the hand remains the hand, kept in a niche on the left of the nave.
