At the junction of 5 Mile and Banbury Road lies the small cemetery of Wolvercote, on the outskirts of Oxford, opened in 1894. Here lies the grave of the famous author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien (Beren), and his wife Edith (Luthien) in a modest burial plot. The author returned to live in Oxford after his wife's death. A must for Middle-earth fans wishing to pay their respects. It's also the only Oxford cemetery to have a section dedicated to people of the Catholic faith.
