DEAL CASTLE

The architecture of this castle is uncommon and has semi-circular fortifications arranged in rosettes. When he ordered the construction, Henry VIII was not very concerned about the aesthetics of the building. He has just broken definitively with Rome and proclaimed himself head of the Anglican Church. He feared a French or Spanish invasion and had a defence system called "Castles of the Downs" erected at Sandown, Walmer and Deal (the latter being the most important). We can see the famous "Wellington Boots", rain boots of which he was the inventor.
