CATHEDRAL ROCHESTER

Consecrated in 604 during the reign of Ethelbert, King of Kent, Rochester Cathedral was, like most monuments in the region, rebuilt around 1080. A restructuring project in the 13th century was not completed due to lack of funds, and the building has retained its purest Romanesque architecture. The organ is carved, the ceiling is made of wood and only the crypt is in Gothic style. It is a historical visit, the entrance to which is free. It is the second oldest bishopric in England after Canterbury, founded by Saint Augustine.
