Initially opened in 1984 by Queen Elizabeth, the museum was given a facelift in 2018, this time by Princess Anne. The theme remains the same: to retrace the preparations for the Normandy landings of June 1944, and to detail how they unfolded, with 156,000 soldiers crossing the English Channel. Archive films and some ten thousand objects from the period have been enriched with interactive content and new testimonials from those who lived through the war, on both sides, military and civilian.
