One of England's oldest public schools, Winchester College was founded in 1382 by William de Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester. Small in scale, the 14th-century buildings and lawn are charming. The chapel is also worth a visit, preferably in the late afternoon, when the sun beautifully illuminates the stained glass behind the altar. Winchester College is also one of the most prestigious in England, alongside the famous Eton College. Remarkably, it has been welcoming students for over 600 years.
