This is where Jane Austen lived the last years of her life, from 1809 to 1817, in the small village of Chawton, east of Winchester. It was within these walls that she completed her most famous novels, Reason and Feelings, Pride and Prejudice, and wrote Emma and Persuasion. Today it is a museum dedicated to her and attracts many of her admirers. Jane Austen died on 18 July 1817 and is buried in Winchester Cathedral.
