Built by Henry VIII in 1547, the Yarmouth Castle, a small fort on the seafront, was originally intended to watch over the coasts of the island and protect the port of Yarmouth. It was once equipped with fifteen cannons and a garrison, responsible for defending it against attacks by French troops. It was modified in the 16th and 17th centuries, before being used again during the two World Wars. Its history is retraced during the visit. An interesting historical visit to make on the island.
