This small cob and thatch cottage is the birthplace of English author Thomas Hardy. He was born here in 1840 and lived here until the age of 34, writing many of his works. The house was in fact built by his great-grandfather as early as 1800. It is partly furnished and has a pleasant garden. Max Gate, the house where he died, is only a few miles away. Hardy's Cottage really does offer the typical vision of the English cottage and its charming traditional garden. It's a tranquil, bucolic setting.
