This cavern, with its nine accessible chambers, contains the earliest traces of human activity in Britain. Its importance and notoriety also stem from the fact that William Pengelly invented the modern system of archaeological classification here during his excavations. It's a place of pilgrimage for many enthusiasts, but also for the curious in general. One kilometer long, it can be visited with a guide and is also studied by scientists.
