The site's reputation stems from its important collection of paintings from the "Newlyn School", an artistic movement that developed in the region in the 19th century. Today, it houses a museum and art gallery. Temporary exhibitions are held on the first floor, and the museum is surrounded by Penlee Memorial Park.
