CHURCH OF ST MARY THE VIRGIN
St Mary's has made a name for itself with its collection of stained glass windows from Germany and the Netherlands. At the beginning of the 19th century, many were dismantled and sold at art markets following the closure of religious institutions on the continent. Reverend William Gorsuch Rowland is credited with acquiring several of them to restore and relocate them here, with the help of local artisans. The oldest is located to the east of the choir. Some fragments are believed to date from 1340 and 40% of the complex was renovated during the Victorian era. We can see Jesse, David's father, and the whole Holy Family. At the side of the Virgin Mary appears King Edward III. When the sun comes back, the colours are even more beautiful. For the rest, the church alone is worth a visit for its medieval origins and its bell tower, one of the highest in the country. Small coffee on site.
