LUDLOW CASTLE
Construction of Ludlow Castle began in 1086 to control the border with Wales. In the 16th and 17th centuries, it served as the basis for the crown to administer the Welsh Marches. Marie Tudor lived there between 1525 and 1528. The ruins are still evocative today of this imposing building, whose dungeon rises with dignity above the city. From its heights, you have beautiful general views of the surroundings. The circular building found at the entrance is the nave of a Norman chapel. Few churches of this style are visible in England today and the best known is the Temple Church in London. You can also enjoy the castle by walking along its ramparts towards Dinham Bridge, crossing the river and following the path to Whitcliffe. It is from here that many artists came to seek inspiration, including Turner.
