Burghley House is a huge Elizabethan palace built between 1555 and 1587 by Lord William Cecil, treasurer of Queen Elizabeth I. There are more than a hundred pieces, including real jewels. The building also houses a fabulous collection of paintings from the Italian Renaissance, as well as valuable period furniture.
