BARLEY HALL
Built around 1360, this medieval residence housed a priory and the Mayor of York's quarters. Until the 1980s, it was hidden behind an office building, but archaeologists took over when the building was demolished. Now well restored and refurnished in the style of the time, it offers a stroll in the typical domestic atmosphere of a rich local residence. The high ceilings, the half-timbered ceilings, the large hall and its everyday elements, everything is there for an authentic journey back in time. Some of the rooms are used for temporary exhibitions related to the Middle Ages.
