CASTLE HOWARD
This eighteenth century castle is one of the most beautiful palaces in the country, surrounded by a green and preserved nature. It still has all its baroque attributes and an interesting series of paintings, enriched by the same owners for 300 years, the counts of Carlisle. Very impregnated with European cultures and art lovers, they brought back from their majestic paintings in Pompei marble and paintings of masters such as Hans Holbein, Poussin or Constable. Antonio Pellegrini even ornamented the Great Hall, unfortunately damaged by a fire in 1940 but renovated in 1962. The interiors are sumptuous, with noble baths, statues, frescoes and historical furniture. Visit the family chapel to admire its beautiful glassware and three embroidered panels made by William Morris, one of the major artists of the pre-raphaelite movement. From the Drawing Room, there is a stunning view of the park and its lakes. In the beautiful days, you can enjoy the romantic flowers and the Temple of the Four Winds. A real Versailles in the English countryside! In 2008, the site was used as a backdrop to the film Brideshead Revisited.
