WHITBY ABBEY
The Anglo-Saxons made monastery, whose origins date back to the year 657, one of the most important religious centres in their kingdom. After the arrival of the Benedictine monks in 1066, it was even among Britain's richest and influential. The abbey escaped from the systematic destruction of religious buildings by Henri VIII, thanks to its strategic location, above the North Sea. Visible from a distance, it was a valuable landmark for sailors! Beaten by winds for centuries, traces of erosion are visible everywhere on its majestic ruins that remain the preferred target of photographers. The ticket also gives access to a small museum that traces history, but you can freely explore the St Mary's Church forever linked to Dracula and turn on the wall wall after climbing the 199 port steps.
