CHETHAM'S LIBRARY
It is the oldest public library still open in the Anglo-Saxon world. It can be found in a former priory of the cathedral, converted in 1653. It houses some 100,000 books, 60,000 of which were printed before 1850. Many of them date back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Don't miss the beautiful ageless reading room, where old grimoires are still attached to the shelves by metal chains. Engels and Marx met here several times to study, from the summer of 1845... One of the most magical places in the city. For all lovers of old books and beautiful stones.
