MUSEUM OF LIVERPOOL
This beautiful contemporary architecture with its oblong shape has changed the waterfront landscape forever. Opened in 2011, it was the largest national museum built in more than a century. It is totally dedicated to Liverpool and its history. From the Neolithic to the Beatles, the Empire, migrations and football clubs, nothing has been ignored. The ambition is to articulate the different facets of this contrasting city throughout each room. World trade, the Industrial Revolution, social struggles, wars, but also sport and culture, we could spend hours there. Archival documents and everyday objects transport you to the highlights of the city's past. It covers the 1911 strikes, the Luftwaffe bombings, but also the violent recession of the 1970s and 1980s. Very often, the witnesses of that time testify by video. There are also reproductions, such as a life-size liver bird or a model of the original project of the Catholic cathedral by Lutyens. On the second floor, you can enjoy exceptional views over the Three Graces and the entire port. In the Skylight Gallery, a gigantic canvas by Ben Johnson depicts Liverpool in all its beautiful diversity. A visit to make at the beginning of your stay, because it inspires you for the rest!
