WALKER ART GALLERY
Turner, Rembrandt, Degas, Monet, Gainsborough, Hogarth... No need to go very far, they are all in Liverpool and it is at Walker's that you can see them. This gallery is one of the most extensive in the country, if not in Europe, and contains works from the 13th century to the present day. Begun in 1819, the collection acquired 150 master pieces between 1871 and 1910, and earned a wide reputation. Tudor portraits, Victorian canvases and pre-Raphaelite paintings, everything is there - including some stars, such as Rossetti's Dante's Dream or W.F. Yeames' And When Did You Last See Your Father. There are even more modern works, such as those of Lucian Freud or David Hockney. In the decorative arts wing, no less than 500 statues and ceramics are also on display. This national museum is not to be missed as it is so rich and of such high quality. It is often referred to as the "National Gallery of the North".
