THE BLUECOAT
A bold bet made this 300-year-old building a fascinating complex of contemporary art. He owes his name to the blouses worn by the least fortunate children who attended a charitable school in 1717. When it moved to 1907, the site was transformed into an artistic centre and claimed to be the oldest in the country. He then exposes Monet, Picasso, Cézanne, Matisse and Van Gogh. After extensive renovations, the Bluecoat redémarre in 2008, including Yoko Ono's works. Today, many temporary exhibitions are always hosted and bring to the honor of artists such as Bobby Baker, Brian Catling or Stephen Cripps. Art lovers will be sure to consult the programming that changes about every three months. For the rest, you can also enjoy a coffee in the middle of the trees and flowery beds, admiring the elegant facade of the monument and its lovely dome.
