ROAD TO HARDKNOTT PASS
This enchanting mountain route is the most rugged in England. It is narrow, winding and unpredictable, so it is necessary to take appropriate driving and control its speed. This short reminder is a short reminder of the kilometres of the Lake District, between Ferry and Eskdale valleys. This is a particularly pleasant exit for those who cannot or do not want to walk too much, especially since it is easy to stop when you wish to admire the view and take photos. Three Shire Stone is the highest point at 393 metres above sea level. It is also the historic boundary between the traditional counties of Westmoorland, Lancashire and Cumberland. There are a few indentations for parking and several hiking trails are available here.
Pike of Blisco: You can hike less than two hours, round-round, to conquer the 705 metres of this noble summit. It is strongly recommended that you have a map and a compass because the path is not always visible and time can evolve. Drive along the road to Three Shire Stone and follow the path to the north towards the Lake of Red Tarn. The climb of Pike of Blisco is on your right on 150 meters of difference. Once the top, the fabulous Ferry valley delivers its beauty, as well as Crinkle Papillon to the west and Swirl how to the South. The nearest neighbor is Cold Pike and is also available from Red Tarn.
Hardknott Castle Roman Fort: if you follow the road on Hardknott Pass until it goes down in the valley of Eskdale, you will come to the ruins of a th century Roman fort built under Emperor Hadrian's reign. No sign really signals the site, but you should find it easily with a map and pick the two indentations to park. There is still little of his old glory but the location is wonderful.

Par contre, le Hardknott Pass Roman Fort n'est pas bien indiqué, il faut être vigilant pour ne pas le rater dans la redescente du Hardknott Pass (en venant de Ambleside)
