BRANTWOOD HOUSE
The thinker and artist John Ruskin lived from 1872 to 1900 in this house in the idyllic location, on the heights of Lake Coniston. It is the refuge of a man who has chosen to flee the crowds to surround himself with works reflecting the beauty of nature and spirit. The defence of the beautiful things went, for this aesthetic, together with a life ethic and a celebration of harmony in the world. One discovers his watercolours, his drawings of architecture made during travels in Florence or Rome, and objects relating to the arts and sciences. Ruskin, who was also an amateur of gardens, designed a very splendid one in which one walked pleasantly.
