The station was built in record time (8 months) and opened in 1900. It was named after the town of Paveliets, which was the most distant terminus. Today, Paveletsky continues to serve medium-sized cities in both the east and west of the Russian Federation. It has been remembered as the place where Lenin's funeral train was held: it is still there, in the museum dedicated to him, alongside an exhibition on the history of railways in Moscow.
