Russian Railways is the descendant company of the Soviet railways, from which it has kept a certain number of practices and symbols, such as the use of the famous podstakannik for the drinks served in the train (and which make a superb souvenir to bring home). Even today, it is a state-owned company, which has a monopoly on the operation of the Federation's rails and remains unavoidable. Fortunately, the prices are very affordable and the service is good. Good point for tourists: their website has a version in English.
