CHURCH OF THE INTERCESSION OF THE VIRGIN OF FILI
This beautiful church has the particularity of hosting a permanent exhibition on the first floor of its main building dating from the late seventeenth century. This building, which is also the subject of the exhibition, is built in the so-called "Narychkin" style. It is in fact the first example and its construction gave many emulators who will constitute together an original Russian architectural style: the Narychkin baroque. This style is in fact a superb mixture of European baroque architecture and some Russian traditions. It was built by the uncle of Peter the Great who, having survived the Streltsy revolt, decided to dedicate a new church to the Virgin as a sign of his gratitude. The interior of the church is quite sumptuous and characteristic, profusion of decorations of baroque inspiration. The iconostasis is of great rarity with its 9 floors, arches and windows decorated with carved wood. The sculptures of the iconostasis are strikingly modern. It is assumed that the Narychkin boyars, who participated in the construction of the church, served as a model. Periodically, concerts of early Russian music are held under the vaults of the church. The first floor is devoted to worship. Other buildings built in the Narychkin baroque style are: the Church of the Transfiguration in the Novodevichy monastery, and the Church of the Resurrection in Kadachi (2-oi Kadachevski per., 7).
