HERMITAGE GARDEN
This small garden in the middle of Moscow, founded by Yakov Schukin, a Russian entrepreneur and patron of the arts, in 1894, surprises its visitors: in the middle of the urban area, it offers a real island of freshness, a haven of peace with neatly raked paths and an unparalleled tranquillity in the heart of Moscow. Several important stages are located on its territory, including the Moscow Hermitage Theatre, the Moscow New Opera Theatre, the Moscow Sphere Drama Theatre, and a summer symphony stage. In addition, visitors can refresh themselves in the veranda restaurant, 32.05, or in one of the cafes located on the territory of the garden. Young visitors and their parents will certainly be interested to see the squirrel cage, the pheasant enclosure and the pigeon house. Moreover, it is a favourite place for romantic rendezvous for broke students or couples nostalgic for the bygone era of the USSR.
In summer, you can also take part in one of the open-air events held in the garden, including the famous Hermitage Garden Jazz Festival, which has been held every year in August since 1998. These varied free musical performances usually start in the afternoon and go on until late at night. Finally, every fine summer evening there is an open-air cinema.
In winter, when a natural ice rink forms, bring your skates! In December, you can also enjoy the lively Christmas fair.
