On Victory Hill, with its plunging view of the capital, one celebrates the victories of the Russians over the Nazi army as well as the French (ПАРК ПОБЕДЫ НА ПОКЛОННОЙ ГОРЕ), for it was on this same hill that Napoleon in 1812 waited in vain for the keys to Moscow after his troops had encircled the city. In commemoration, a statue of St. George slaying the dragon and a 142 m high obelisk with a bronze statue of the Greek goddess Niké (Goddess of Triumph) have been erected.
