Andrei Sakharov was a Soviet physicist who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1975 for his major role in signing the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. The center that bears his name today acts as a platform for the popularization and promotion of human rights.
To this end, it has a rich program, a library, several exhibition rooms and a small (and rare) museum of the history of the USSR through the prism of political repression and the gulag system (16 years +).
