The presence of such an avant-garde museum in Kolomna may come as a surprise. Opened in 2011, ART-KOMMUNALKA restores the liberation of speech and dissent that began with Khrushchev's project of desalinization when he came to power in the 1960s. The museum is a community apartment of the time, doubled as a community apartment for resident artists who exhibit more contemporary works in a second dedicated space. In this way, the artistic tradition of Kolomna continues today, on new subjects.
