FORMER SPA (HOSPITÁL KUKS)
Once a very important spa town, Kuks has preserved a superb building designed by Count Špork and dedicated to the care of the sick, with top-of-the-range facilities for the time and also including an important cultural component. The whole complex is beautifully set up on a high ground around the central avenue and the access stairs with a waterfall. The baroque architecture, the sculpture, the landscape, everything harmonizes wonderfully.
At the entrance, on a massive balustrade: statues by Matyáš B. Braun. On one side, twelve of them symbolize the virtues of human nature, and on the other side, twelve others symbolize the vices. It's up to you to choose the right side! On the terrace you can also admire the Allegory of Religion by Matyáš B. Braun. Carved out of a 5-ton sandstone block, it is probably the most beautiful baroque statue in the country.
The hospital of the Brothers of Charity, often called "castle", is a spa built in 1695 by G.-B. Alliprandi. The lapidary of the former hospital houses original works by Matyáš B. Braun (the others are copies). The Church of the Holy Trinity and its crypt are located in the hospital. It was built after the hospital and houses the Spór family vault (the Count's coffin is made of pewter) and, above all, a unique work by Matyáš B. Braun: the wooden statue of the Holy Trinity. Braun: the wooden statue of Christ. You can also visit the baroque pharmacy of the hospital.
