PARDUBICE CASTLE, MUSEUM AND GALLERY
It is located north of Pernštýnské Náměstí. From a distance, it is really not impressive, as it is not elevated and is hidden by trees. But as you approach it, it becomes quite interesting. The way to reach it is already a small visit in itself, since you can reach it by walking along pretty little streets lined with very well preserved Renaissance houses, or by walking along the curved ramparts. Built in the 16th century, it is now surrounded by pleasant gardens. It houses an interesting gallery and museum. In the East Bohemian Gallery (Východočeská Gallery), works by Czech artists from the 19th and 20th centuries are on display. Paintings but also decorative arts and some sculptures, in most cases works of local artists. The Museum of East Bohemia (Východočeská muzeum) focuses on local history with a beautiful presentation of pieces from archaeological excavations well displayed in a well worked scenography. The most beautiful building is the palace, recently renovated, where you can see beautiful Renaissance wall paintings depicting religious scenes. Exhibitions of ancient coins, weapons, postcards are proposed. If your children are tired of castles, tell them before visiting this one that dozens of peacocks, turkeys and guinea fowl roam freely. Many entertainments (escape game, medieval games) are proposed in season.
