In 1975, it was decided to raze the historic center of Most to make way for an open-pit coal mine. The coal industry was a priority at the time. Experts succeeded in convincing the state to save the Gothic church with its beautiful barrel vaults. It was then decided to move it. Thanks to an exceptional technological operation, the entire church, weighing 9,600 tons, was moved in twenty-seven days to a distance of 842 m from its original location, i.e. 3 m per hour.
