CASTLE ON THE WATERS OF BLATNÁ
The first fortified castle, surrounded by water, built here, dates from around 1400. It would have replaced a Romanesque enclosure, but archaeological excavations in and around the castle prove that the site was actually occupied by settlements since prehistoric times. The presence of a ford nearby to cross the Lomnice River explains the development of the site. The defensive complex was rebuilt into a Renaissance palace in the 16th century by the architect B. Ried of Piesting. At the end of the 18th century, it was acquired by the Hildprandts, who partially renovated it in the neo-Gothic style. It underwent numerous small changes until the major renovation in the mid-19th century, which resulted in its present eclectic appearance. The least we can say is that this complex has undergone a great number of adaptations, extensions, over the course of architectural fashions, according to the changes of owners. The castle seems to stand on the water. One enters it by a bridge, then by passing under a high and beautiful white tower. The different wings are painted in gray, white, beige, and decorated with various small towers, balconies. The general aspect is particularly romantic. You can visit the interiors of the Rozdražovský Palace or the salon with the beautiful and exotic name of "Ethiopia". Around the palace, you can walk or picnic in the beautiful Anglický Park, which is both wooded and humid. A beautiful setting for the palate.
