Founded in 1877, making it one of the oldest in Bohemia, the museum tells the story of South Bohemia, offering an insight into the ethnic groups that populated the region, as well as the flora and fauna of the area. The museum's display cases were soon overflowing with donations, which led to the construction of the current building, which was opened in 1903 in neo-Renaissance style. Another plus: the collection of handicrafts from the Middle Ages and the Museum of Jewelry.
