The original building dates from the 16th century, as evidenced by its baroque style, which matches that of the other buildings in the square. Its administrative function is ancient, as it used to house the provincial assemblies, before being refurbished in 1934-1935 to serve as the new city hall. The complex includes a chapel of the former Dominican monastery, one of the oldest buildings in the city, and has beautiful decorations and extraordinary painted ceilings.
