The village of Rajhrad is home to the oldest convent in Moravia. It was established in 1031 by the order of Benedictine monks from Prague. It was extensively remodeled at the end of the 17th century by the architect and painter Giovanni Santini, the master of Baroque Gothic. Today, this grandiose complex remains an important place of pilgrimage, open to the public every day during services. Because of the pilgrimages, there are many guest houses to stay in the city.
