CASTELLO DI MELEGNANO
Castle built in 1243 by Matteo Visconti with two angular towers on the façade.
Built in 1243 by Matteo Visconti, it was under Bernabo Visconti that the castle acquired its characteristic quadrilateral plan flanked by two angular towers on the façade. In 1532, the castle passed to Gian Giacomo Medici of the Nosigia family (no relation to the Medici of Florence). It remained in the family until 1981 when it was acquired by the Province of Milan. Beautiful 16th century frescoes decorate the interior rooms, recounting the exploits of Gian Giacomo Medici in mythological, political and historical representations.
