DUOMO
The fourth dome of Italy with a Greek cross, preserving some beautiful altarpieces.
Pavia Cathedral, dedicated to Santo Stefano and Santa Maria Assunta, was built from 1488 onwards according to Renaissance architectural criteria. The intervention of Bramante and, it is said, the opinion of Leonardo da Vinci were decisive factors in its construction. The dome was not completed until the 19th century, however, and is the fourth largest in Italy, after the Mole Antonellina in Turin, San Gaudenzio in Novara and Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. The Greek cross interior features a number of fine altarpieces.
