Bridge connecting the city center to the fishing village beyond the river Ticino in Pavia.
Symbol of Pavia, the covered bridge was commissioned by Galeazzo II Visconti the day after the conquest of the city in 1360, on the remains of a Roman bridge. In the 18th century the chapel dedicated to San Giovanni Nepomuceno, patron saint of rivers, was added to the central pillar. Damaged by bombing in 1944, the bridge was completely demolished in 1948 for fear of collapse. The present structure, rebuilt identically, dates from 1951. It is 182 m long and connects the town centre with the fishing village across the Ticino River.
