CASTELLO VISCONTEO
Castle very popular with the lords of Milan, located in Pandino.
Pandino Castle is surprisingly well-preserved in terms of its architecture and pictorial decorations. Designed by Bernabò Visconti in 1354, the castle was built in the middle of particularly game-filled terrain, much prized by the lords of Milan, who were great hunting enthusiasts. Square in plan, with a vast inner courtyard, the powerful watchtowers at the entrance were built by the Viscontis to better defend the stronghold against Venetian attacks. In the 16th century, the castle completely lost its defensive function and became a country residence.
