ROCCA SFORZESCA
Fifteenth-century military fortress skillfully restored in the nineteenth century in Soncino.
Beautiful 15th century military fortress, skilfully restored in the 19th century, with its ramparts, its courtyard, its guard tower, its drawbridge and its underground passages. The lounges are completely unfurnished, but are still interesting, especially thanks to the guided tour. Originally the property of the Sforza family, lords of Milan, the Rocca passed to the Stampa family in 1536, when Emperor Charles V raised Soncino to the rank of marquisate; it is from this period that the frescoes in some of the rooms, of which the remains can still be seen, date back.
