PALAZZO GIARDINO
Private residence of the Duke located in Sabbioneta, a tribute to classical culture.
The private residence of the Duke (1578-1588), this palace is a tribute to classical culture. The building, plastered in white, is decorated inside with rich frescoes by Bernardino Ciampi. The centerpiece is the Galleria degli Antichi, dedicated to the Duke's antique collections. Its exposed brick façade flanks one side of the Piazza d'Armes. One of the longest Renaissance halls (96 m), it features a decorated wooden ceiling and frescoed murals. Special mention must be made of the Sala degli Specchi (Hall of Mirrors), reserved for court festivities.
