DUOMO
Cathedral dedicated to St. Peter, a curious mixture of different styles.
North of Piazza Sordello, the Cathedral of Mantua, dedicated to St Peter, is a curious mixture of different styles: its Baroque façade is the result of an 18th-century remodelling, the bell tower is of Romanesque origin, and the right-hand side is late Gothic. A mausoleum for several prominent representatives of the Gonzaga dynasty, the 16th-century interior was designed by Giulio Romano; the side chapels are decorated with beautiful paintings by masters. A coat of arms adorns the tympanum of the façade, surrounded by medallions of the apostles Peter and Paul.
