PIAZZA DELLA ERBE
Today, the square hosts temporary exhibitions in Mantova.
The heart of the town since the Middle Ages, this was the site of the picturesque fruit and vegetable market (hence the name "des herbes"). Here you'll find the Palazzo della Ragione (13th century), where justice was dispensed and which today hosts temporary exhibitions; the Clock Tower (15th century), remarkable for its extraordinary mechanism; the Rotonda di San Lorenzo, a surprising 11th-century church whose circular plan is reminiscent of the Holy Sepulchre, as well as several Renaissance buildings and some beautifully preserved facade paintings.
