PIAZZA SORDELLO
The square is surrounded by noble buildings such as the Duomo on the north side and the Bonacolsi Palace on the west.
The square, the heart of ancient Mantua, has retained its medieval appearance. It is surrounded by noble buildings including the Duomo on the north side, the Bonacolsi Palace on the west, flanked by the terrible Torre della "Gabbia", the tower of the cage which takes its name from the cage suspended on one of its sides; criminals were locked up there and exposed to the crowd. Adjacent to the dome, the Episcopal palace whose facade is distinguished by the two atlatls that support the balcony and finally the palace of the Captain with its crenellated walls and the Magna Domus, both part of the ducal palace.
